On Sunday 19th April, 2020, the Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies (TGC), Chancellor Elder Nana Amo Tobbin I together with its members donated 2000 food items to the needy and vulnerable in the communities. These communities include; Newtown, Alajo, North kaneshie, Circle, Nima, Avenor, Maamobi, Kotobabi and its environs. Each household received a box containing a 5kg bag of rice, Gari (1) Olonka, onions, mackerel, sardines, a bottle of non-alcoholic wine, a bottle of cooking oil, tin tomatoes, sugar, milo, indomine, soft drinks and biscuits.

The extraordinary donation was aimed at supporting the vulnerable who have been deprived of their daily bread following the three-week lockdown imposed by the government to contain the rapid spread of the coranavirus pandemic.

The method chosen for the distribution was the house-to-house to give the true meaning of social distancing.

He explained that the overcrowding that characterized the distribution of food by some organizations was not the best as it poses health risk to the beneficiaries and that he thought it wise to use a more safer way to distribute food to the needy.

Nana Amo Tobbin I commended individuals and Corporate organizations assisting government’s efforts to feed the needy in these difficult times and further called for more of such support as the nation combats the pandemic.

The Group CEO advised the public to observe the COVID-19 safety measures by washing their hands often with soap under running water, using hand sanitizers frequently, observing social distancing protocol, avoiding touching the eyes, mouth and nose, and covering the mouth or nose with disposable tissues when coughing or sneezing to stay safe.

Finally he suggested the use of mobile money as one of the methods to help the needy. He said organisations and individuals  can identify needy people in society and send them some cash for their upkeep.

Members in the selected communities expressed joy as some testified that the food items would sustain them up to one week. Some households prepared meals immediately they received the donation and they prayed for God’s blessings on Tobinco Group  of Companies.

The Tobinco Group of Companies earlier donated some of its products and medical items valued at GH¢251,000.00 to the Ministry of Health to help in the management of the respiratory disease.

The items include, Tobcee Chewable Vitamin C plus Glucose tablet, Zinvite blood capsules, B-G-Glutamine plus tab, Omal hand sanitizers, face masks, aluminium veronica buckets, and hand washing bowls.
